Nijo-jo Castle was built in 1608 under the orders of the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate, Tokugawa Ieyasu. It is under the very eaves of this castle where medieval Japan turned the leaf into new era when the 15th and final shogun, Tokugawa Yoshinobu announced of the formal restoration of political authority to the emperor.
The castle’s great significance and value as a cultural asset earned it its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
The castle grounds feature several areas that can be used as meeting or event venues.
The relaxed space in front of the large, lavishly decorated large gate in the southeast corner of the castle can be used to hold parties or exhibitions. When lit up at night, the gate creates a magical atmosphere that will surround your guests with an air of special luxury. This area can host dinner receptions of about 100 people and standing receptions of about 200.
Exhibitions, film screenings, musical performances, and other such events can be held in the castle’s old kitchen.
Also, in the springtime, the cherry blossom garden can be privately rented out to hold parties. It is impossible to top a party under a canopy of cherry blossoms that has been especially lit up at night!
